AGILITY FOUNDATIONS
This introductory class will help dog and handler develop a solid working relationship in addition to building the physical skills necessary to play agility safely and confidently. The focus of this class will be body awareness, motivation, impulse control, recalls and co-ordination. Agility Foundations should give you a better understanding of how to get the most from your dog.
This fun class utilizes positive training techniques and we will cover the basics of shaping, capturing and luring behaviors to train the “thinking dog”. Dogs will work on obstacle skills with planks, tippy boards and perch work. This 6 week class is open to dogs 14 weeks or older.
BEGINNER AGILITY
In this session, teams will learn their handling skills on the flat and around cones in addition to basic obstacle skills. Handlers will utilize shaping skills to develop contact performance, teach an automatic down on the table and learn the tire jump.
Front crosses, rear crosses, shoulder pulls and pushes will be introduced as well as running planks, advanced distraction drills, and one jump work. This 6 week class is open to dogs 20 weeks or older.
OBSTACLE EXCELLENCE
This ongoing class is designed to improve speed, clarity and independence with all 3 contact obstacles, jumps, tire jump, broad jump, table, tunnels and weaves. This class will consist of obstacle stations that rotate on a week by week basis. Class participants will be given the opportunity to perform each station multiple times with suggestions and feedback offered to improve performance.
For participants with dog’s proficient on the obstacles, short sequences designed to proof skills will be offered. This will give teams the ability to work discriminations, independence, approaches, crosses and distractions. For participants learning the skills, repetitions and skill building suggestions will be offered. Teams should expect to see 2 contact obstacles weekly.
Obstacle Excellence is a great place to address specific performance issues or as supplementary training for a young dog in need of training time. This is an ongoing class and participants are invited to sign up for their 6 week session at any point in the class rotation. Young teams should plan on spending more than one session in this class to successfully train and proof obstacle skills. Contact performance may be running or positional.
SKILLS AND DRILLS
This 6 week class is a progressive class and sequences will get more challenging with each week. In Skills and Drills we will focus on specific handling challenges teams may experience on an agility course. Front Crosses, Rear Crosses, Blind Crosses, Serpentines and Threadles will be some of the maneuvers practiced.
This class is a great place to work on building skills for the beginner or for more experienced teams to work on timing, focus, tighter lines, or motivation.
JUST COURSES I
This is a handling class that focuses on teams putting their skills together and preparing for competition. The courses will range from Novice to Advanced with the challenges teams should expect to see in the early stages of competing. This class should highlight potential problems that will arise in competition and give teams the chance to work on them both in class and at home
This is a continuing class that will run in 6 week cycles. If teams are not able to perform the obstacle skills in a manner that offers the greatest benefit to running full courses, Obstacle Excellence or Skills and Drills may be required in order to remain in the class.
JUST COURSES II
This is a handling class that focuses on teams gearing up for Masters and Excellent level competition. We will discuss the courses from a more technical standpoint in order to give teams a competitive advantage. Course challenges will be more difficult and teams will be invited to attempt different handling techniques in order to access which option suits them the best.
This is a continuing class that will run in 6 week cycles. If teams are not able to perform the obstacle skills in a manner that offers the greatest benefit to the challenges presented, Just Courses I, Obstacle Skills or Skills and Drills may be required in order to continue.
